I am volunteering to localize OctoStudio, a free coding app developed by the MIT Media Lab’s Lifelong Kindergarten Group, into Japanese.
Drawing inspiration from Scratch’s block-based interface, I am working on Japanese translations that are easy to use for a wide range of users, including children.
A Japanese—Hiragana version is also scheduled for release soon (as of December 2, 2025).
OctoStudio is available for iOS, Android, and Chromebook, and runs on many GIGA devices. Once downloaded, the app can be used offline, enabling creation anytime, anywhere, making it an ideal tool for school use.
We are currently promoting its use in workshops outside of schools while also advancing plans for its introduction into school education.
